Whiddon Deputy CEO, Alyson Jarrett, Joins Nursing and Midwifery Strategic Reference Group

Alyson has been appointed to the strategic group as a representative for peak industry body, the Aged & Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA).

Award-winning aged care provider, Whiddon, has announced the appointment of Alyson Jarrett to the Australian Government Department of Health and Aged Care, Nursing and Midwifery Strategic Reference Group (NMSRG). Alyson was put forward as a representative of peak industry body, the Aged and Community Care Providers Association (ACCPA).

The Nursing and Midwifery Strategic Reference Group (NMSRG) plays a vital role in advising the Federal Government and Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, on relevant nursing and midwifery policy and issues.

The appointment is a testament to the positive impact Alyson has already achieved for the aged care sector, and continues to champion, drawing on over 35 years of experience across clinical care and executive leadership.

For Alyson, the appointment provides an important opportunity to advocate for the needs of nurses in our sector. In the role, Alyson’s focus will remain steadfast on ensuring recognition for the aged care specialty and reinforcing the value Registered Nurses and Enrolled Nurses bring in caring for Australia’s elders.

“I am deeply honoured to be able to provide a voice for our aged care nurses and represent their needs at the highest level. We know how important our nurses are in delivering quality relationship-cased care to older Australis and it is my intention to continue supporting positive change in the sector,” said Alyson.

Alyson first joined Whiddon in 2008 and is the passionate driver of the not-for-profit providers’ Relationship Based Care (RBC) approach and the ongoing embedding of the model. Alyson has also been a strong advocate in the dementia care space, with the development of Whiddon’s impactful Dementia Care Framework and recent micro-learning trial.

ACCPA CEO Tom Symondson welcomed Ms Jarrett’s appointment.

“With the current critical shortage of registered nurses in aged care, Ms Jarrett’s appointment will help ensure the views and concerns of aged care providers are advocated for at the highest levels. The whole sector needs to work together to come up with innovative solutions to help grow the nursing workforce to provide the care that our rapidly ageing population needs,” Mr Symondson said.
